Spring Term - Coastline

What makes a town a seaside town?

In the Coastline project, your child will use maps to learn about the location of the world’s seas and oceans and keys to learn about map symbols. They will also find out about the directions on a compass. They will learn about the human and physical features of a coastline, including the effects of erosion and how to stay safe when visiting the coast. They will have the opportunity to learn about the work of the RNLI, what happened to the SS Rohilla and about the coastal town of Whitby, including how Captain Cook is linked to the town. They will research the tourism industry and consider what features make a place a successful tourist destination.

04.01.23 - Home Learning

2T have produced some brilliant pieces of home learning during the holidays. We have some fantastic treasure chests made out of shoe boxes and plastic containers, with some exciting things inside too! We also have a pair of seals made out of clay that correlate wonderfully with our new project 'Coastline'.

02.03.2023 - World Book Day!

We all enjoyed seeing each others costumes and guessing which book we were from! In the afternoon, we listened to a retelling of Julia Donaldson's The Snail and the Whale whilst making some book marks.

09.03.2023 - Exploring textures

2T spent all afternoon exploring textures for our Art companion project 'Flower Head'. The children used different materials including clay, foil, corrugated card and tissue paper to explore how to create sharp and spiky, soft and wrinkly, rough and bumpy and shiny and smooth textures. We all had a fantastic afternoon being creative!

13.03.2023 - Science week!

To celebrate British Science Week, we took part in a variety of science activities including making moon dials, extracting strawberry DNA, exploring our sense of smell, building bridges to stand the most weight, exploring how sound travels and comparing our fingerprints. KS1 had an amazing afternoon being scientists!
