Electrical Circuits and Components

Year 6 have begun their new companion project and are loving the practical elements involved.

The first task required the children to recognise the symbols used in circuits. Next, was having a test of the equipment to make their own circuits, could they light a lamp, make a buzzer sound, attach a motor to spin a propeller? Following this, the children then used their knowledge of circuit symbols to draw the simple circuits they had made. The last lesson in this sequence asked the children to create their own enquiry question such as, would adding wires to the circuit reduce the brightness of the lamp, would the buzzer’s volume go down if one cell powered two or more buzzers? This helped the children see what happens when components in series circuits are changed or added to.

Ask your child to explain how to create a circuit.
