Every two weeks we focus on a book. The book is usually either a traditional tale or a book linked to our topic. We read the book together - predict, discuss, and talk about what we like and dislike. Whilst reading the book one of our wonderful TA's draws a picture that links to the book for us. I then work with the children as a whole class, asking them for their ideas about what sentences we could write. We do this as a group, then over the next two weeks the children will work with me closely either 1 to 1 or in a small group and will complete their piece of writing, using knowledge they have gained from phonics inputs, the whole class literacy input and they are also provided with sound mats at different levels to help scaffold their learning.
