Autumn Term - Invasion

How did Britain change after the Romans withdrew in AD 410?

This project teaches children about life in Britain after the Roman withdrawal.  Children will learn about Anglo-Saxons and Vikings up to the Norman conquest.

This term we will also be completing subject specific projects on the digestive system, sound, food, art and geography.

Today we had a really exciting visit from archaeologists from Viking Link. They led groups in six different activities:

1. Designing coins

2. Making clay pots

3. Looking at clothes, weapons and artefacts

4. Exploring an Anglo Saxon village with a VR headset

5. Carving soap dice

6. Exploring archaeological finds

We have loved learning about the Anglo Saxons through these engaging and interesting activities. Many thanks to Viking Link for providing this opportunity for our children.

We had the most wonderful day visiting DIG archaeology centre and Jorvik. We learned about life in Viking York, practised our archaeology skills by digging for artefacts through different time periods, took part in a Viking myths storytelling workshop, experienced Viking life first-hand by travelling through a Viking village on the incredible multi-sensory ride at Jorvik, and loved looking at the remains of Jorvik through the glass floor. What an amazing experience for our young historians in Year 4.
