Exploring Fabrics
For our first lesson in this companion project, we looked a what fabric is and the difference between natural and synthetic fabrics. We then looked at the properties of a selection of fabrics.
Design feature of familiar products
Today, we looked at familiar products from around the home such as cushions, lampshades, oven gloves, cuddly toys and a washing line octopus. We thought about their designs and looked at the materials they were made from, what their purpose is and if they were fit for purpose, how attractive they were and any specific design features.
Wow event
We invited our parents into school to learn how to sew a hem with a running stitch and embellish a piece of fabric with buttons, appliqué and fabric crayons with us. What fantastic perseverance! All the children (and adults!) tried so hard and really improved their skills throughout the afternoon.
