Haiku poetry
Year 6 have created some fabulous Haiku poems with a polar theme. After looking at some examples, to pick out key features, they drafted their ideas. The first area was to create a list of verbs to describe the creature’s movements, then adjectives for description of shape, size, colour. Topical words were then added to the list and composition could start.
The composition required the children to use the 5-7-5 syllable pattern, creating poem lines that included alliteration, repetition, similes and noun phrases.
