Welcome to Year 2's class page!
Here you will find all the information needed to help support your child's learning, including all the new knowledge they will learn throughout their Year 2 journey.
Year 2 are extremely lucky to have support from Mrs Villiers. Mrs Villiers has a wealth of experience and is a valued member of the Spilsby team.
Uniform
Please ensure that your child wears the correct uniform to school by following our uniform policy as detailed on our website. https://www.spilsbyprimary.org.uk/school-uniform/ . If your child has long hair, please ensure it is tied back and that any bows are of small size and blue in colour.
We are limited on spare clothes that we keep within school so please send spare underwear and a spare set of clothes in with your child in their book bags just in case they may need to change. If your child does happen to borrow any clothes from school, please return them washed so we can keep a stock for emergencies.
As space is limited on our coat pegs, we advise against big bags and if possible, recommend just using the book bag where possible. Please also remember to bring a coat to school even if the weather looks fine in the morning as this can change throughout the day and we like to go outside for playtimes when we can. On hot days (which we appreciate is rare), please send in sun cream and a sun hat.
A desperate plea from us………PLEASE REMEMBER TO LABEL ALL ITEMS!
Food and drink
Please remember that juice is only to be drank at lunch times, but children are welcome to water throughout the day. Fruit is also provided for your child at snack time but if your child prefers to bring their own, then please ensure that it is healthy. Examples being fruit, vegetables, and low sugar cereal bars. Ensure the snacks and drinks bottles are labelled with your child’s name.
Continue to order your school dinners online. Please see the office if you are unsure how to do this.
PE
Year 2 will have P.E on a Monday and Tuesday, so will need to come into school in their P.E kit on this day. Please ensure that they are dressed appropriately - a tracksuit or leggings are fine for the colder weather. PE kit should be black/ blue shorts, leggings or jogging bottoms and a blue school PE polo shirt. Trainers or plimsolls should be black or a dark colour to reflect the PE 'uniform'.
Homework
Project homework will be given just before each half term break to complete over the school holidays. Your child will choose one of three choices that link to the project that will be covered after the school holidays.
Reading book: We follow the Little Wandle phonics scheme so your child will be bringing home ‘big cat’ reading books. These books will be changed every Monday and you will keep them for the whole week to support your child to become fluent within their reading. Please make sure your child reads as much as possible at home to support their reading progression and record when they have read in their reading record. They will receive a reading challenge sticker each time that they read at home so that they can be in for a chance of winning a book at the end of term if they get the most stickers.
You will also receive a ‘reading for pleasure’ book, which your child chooses and as these are not linked to your child’s reading level they may not be able to read them by themselves and so is purely for them to enjoy by either looking at independently or you read to them. These will be changed fortnightly but we recommend putting them in your child’s book bag every day so that they do not miss the opportunity to change their book.
PLEASE ENSURE BOOK BAGS ARE LABELLED.
Website
Don’t forget to check our school website for information on the projects, and photos on what fun and exciting things the children have been up to whilst learning. Our website address is www.spilsbyprimary.org.uk.
If you need to contact us for any reason, you can find a contact form on the Year 2 Class Page on the school website. We are also at the gate each morning and afternoon but can sometimes be tricky to talk during busy times so we may need to arrange a more suitable time if the matter needs a more in-depth conversation.
We look forward to a very enjoyable year working with you and your child.
Many thanks
Mrs Coulthard
