W.B. Monday 18th January 2021

Introduction

Please spend the time listening and watching the introduction video below, so that you are clear of this week's remote learning expectations.

I will be reading the class book to the children in school on a Friday afternoon at 2:00pm. I would like children at home to have the opportunity to be involved in this and can be done by using Microsoft Teams. This can be done through an internet browser or can be downloaded as an app on most devices. If you would like to be involved in this then email Mr Roberts on the email address below by 3:00pm Thursday, so that a link can be sent to attend this.

Lesson 1: TT Rockstars - Please spend 15minutes on this to work on your times tables.

Lesson 2: Maths (1 hour) - Miss Baine's group please refer to the Year 1 remote learning page.

Mr Roberts' group please attempt the question sheets. There is a video link, which talks through the questions and the method if you find it difficult to check answers as well. Because of this being a statistics unit some of the questions, you will need to watch the video to help answer some of the questions.

Lesson 3: Phonics (15mins) - Please complete pages 38 - 39 in your CGP book.

Lesson 4: English (1hour) - Please watch the video and do the tasks which are throughout the video.

Lesson 5: R.E (45mins) -

1) Look at the images of the different symbols on the document below:

  • Do you recognise any of them?

  • What could they mean?

2) They are symbols of luck:

  • Why do you think people believe in lucky symbols?
  • Do you believe in good or bad luck?

3) Look at the picture of the Guthuk soup. Buddhists traditionally eat this soup at Losar. The soup is made with 9 ingredients because that is considered a lucky number. It also contains a dumpling with an object in it. Tibetan Buddhists believe this object will predict the person’s good or bad fortune for that year.

4) Design your own Guthuk soup with 9 ingredients in.

5) Discuss:

  • Do you think Guthuk soup is lucky?
  • Why do you think Tibetan Buddhists want good luck in the New Year?
  • What might you hope for in the New Year?
Lesson 6: Music - Watch this video for the National Anthem and see if you can learn the words as well as the sign language to go with it.

As I said in my introductory video, this is absolutely NOT essential but in school we are going to try and use some of our free time on a Friday afternoon to think about our Childhood project and this week we are looking at recipes from the 1950s.

Using the link below, have a look at what food was like and see how it compares to nowadays and if you can then have a go at making some.
