    PE CURRICULUM INTENT

“Athletics are great. But physical education is for every youngster -- to help them learn about themselves, learn about their bodies, learn ways to become physically active but not necessarily to compete.”

    George Graham

At Spilsby Primary Academy, our aim is for our pupils to gain knowledge of the need for healthy, active lifestyles and how to achieve this by building exercise into everyday routines. We aim for our pupils to develop values and transferrable life skills such as fairness, honesty, resilience and respect and to engage in sports and activities, competing independently and collaboratively.

    IMPLEMENTATION

    • Use of specialist PE coaches and equipment
    • Planned broad selection of activities during
    • (including lunch time) and after school
    • Sustained periods of physical activity
    • Carefully planned progression of knowledge and skills
    • Regular sporting competitions /events
    • Use of subject specific vocabulary and key subject knowledge
    • Swimming / water safety sessions for KS2

A brilliant morning for the Infinity Academy Cup. Great to have our schools together. Thanks to St Thomas' for hosting and congrats to St Nicholas Primary for the win, and to our team who picked up the sportsmanship award!!

3T have loved football this half term and have made so much progress. They had great fun this morning using their shooting, passing and dribbling skills in a tournament. Brilliant work 3T and a big thankyou to Mr Chamberlain for his patience!

What a lovely morning for Inter School Sport ☀️ Well done to the 15 teams competing at our Y5/6 Football Tournament. All matches played in good spirit and most importantly loads of smiley faces!

Year 1 have been learning the skills of jumping over low hurdles in preparation for Sports day. They learnt the importance of using their arms to enable them to jump really far and using their squishy knees to land correctly and safely.

Well done to Team Spilsby for placing 4th and 5th in JB Sports Y3/4 Hockey Tournament today. A fab result against 12 other schools.

This week in gymnastics, year 1, have been learning about jumping. We learnt how to jump safely and used the equipment to practice our pike, tuck and star jumps.

Today all of Year 1 had a special visitor come into school and teach the children the art of Samba a traditional Brazilian dance. The children copied and remember simple movement patterns, showing awareness of rhythm, they then used these skills to use different parts of the body to create movements, such as stepping, stretching and skipping to move to the Samba beat.

    Infinity Cup

Spilsby did themselves and the school proud at the first tournament of the school year. Brilliant sportsmanship, determination and team spirit.

    Infinity Cup

Such a great feeling to have inter-school sport back up and running. Massive thanks to JB Sports Coaching for organising another brilliant football tournament.

    Sports Day 2021

Each class took part in their own sports day this week. Every child worked really hard to build points for their house team through a range of track and field events. Great sportsmanship and resilience was shown throughout.
Scores were combined across all the classes and the final scores and winners revealed in the Friday Celebration Assembly, with the winning team being announced as Dymoke. The house captains collected the trophy on behalf of all its team members.

A great sports morning for all the children, learning to win and lose and being good sports. The sun was shining too!

Reception children enjoyed the Mr Motivator workout today. It certainly woke us up after our half term break!

Reception B enjoying Superhero yoga with JB Sports Coaching. We transformed ourselves into superheroes by listening and balancing. Our Hulk faces were particularly impressive!

    Sport Relief Dance-a-thon

All the children took part in an afternoon of dancing to support this year’s Sport Relief. They had all learnt a variety of dances with their JB Sports coach and teachers. The session continued over the whole afternoon with each class joining the previous to keep the dancing going.

We had lots of fun this morning at the dodgeball tournament! Fantastic skills on show and it was lovely to see our children taking part in competitive sport against other schools. Thank you JB Sports for organising and QEGS at Horncastle for hosting.

Y5 choreographed some brilliant routines in PE today showing movement to music!

    Tag Rugby

An excellent afternoon learning Samba, Brazilian dancing! Thankyou to Sam Sorrell, Year 1 and 2 loved it!

JB visited reception B today and told us a story about fireworks. We made movements to show which fireworks were going off and what was happening in the story. We used high and low movements narrow and wide shapes and then made up a firework dance for JB to watch! We had a blast!

Coach Mr Shaw told his special friend JB that Reception were amazing so JB visited us! We listened to the story about JB and the Dinosaurs and then acted the story out with JB. We had so much fun moving our bodies in different ways and got lots of exercise too! #PElessons #withadifference
