Year 6

Year 6 2022/23

Welcome to Year 6

Welcome to our class page. Year 6 will be taught by Miss Gardner and is supported by Miss Cobb, Mrs Masterman and Miss Bartrip. We are all looking forward to all the exciting learning opportunities and events planned for this academic year. We look forward to welcoming parents and family members to enjoy some of these at our end of project Wow Events.

Here you will find all the information you need for our class projects, class news, celebrations of our learning and homework pieces. The page will be regularly updated through the term and each project will have its own link (at the bottom of the page) to help keep things organised. All relevant project documents can be found in each sub folder as well as photos and activity information.

The children will have P.E. once a week and swimming once a week this term: swimming is on Monday afternoon, and a our PE session is on a Tuesday morning with JB Sports. This term's focus is Athletics, which will include both indoor and outdoor activities. Children should still come into school wearing their P.E. school uniform, consisting of blue polo shirt, blue P.E. shorts or black/navy blue cycling shorts, black/navy blue leggings or jogging pants, school jumper or cardigan, plain black or navy-blue jogging top, dark trainers or plimsolls. Any changes to the school P.E. timetable, to allow for different learning experiences, will be given well in advance. Please ensure that all belongings are properly named and that your child has a water bottle in school.

The children will receive weekly spellings, be encouraged to record daily reading sessions in their reading record, as well as using the TimesTable Rockstars app to improve their speed of recall for multiplication facts. Homework will continue as previously with a termly project-based approach, with the minimum one piece to be completed and bought in no later than the first week back (see individual project links below for Homework sheets). At the half term break, children will receive a second piece of project homework to do, which will focus on the companion projects that the children will cover in school. Please encourage your child to take responsibility for their home learning as this is promoted strongly in year 6, in preparation for transition to secondary.

If you have any questions you wish to ask or any ideas or experiences which will enhance the children's learning please contact me primarily through the email link below or secondly through the school office.

Thank you,

Miss Gardner

Virtual Author

Year 6 took part in a virtual author zoom meeting. The author, Sarah Ann Juckes, discussed her new publication ‘The Night Animals’. The children listened to her explaining the places she got her inspiration from, how she stayed resilient when writing became hard and finally the importance of editing; skills that are linked to their own learning in the classroom.
