Exploring Geometric Motifs

In Islamic art, there are lots of repeated patterns or motifs. These can be created on a grid using geometric shapes. Today we practised using pairs of compasses to create motifs with circles. It was our first time using compasses and it was really challenging for us, but we persevered and created some fantastic motifs.

Designing patterns on a grid

Today, we used a repeating grid to create our own motif using crayons. We had to be really careful to colour in the correct sections to make it a repeating, symmetrical pattern.
