Welcome to Year 6
Welcome to our class page.
Here you will find all the information you need for our class projects, class news, celebrations of our learning and homework pieces. The page will be regularly updated through the term and each project will have its own link (at the bottom of the page) to help keep things organised.
The third of our projects is entitled 'Darwin's Delights' and takes a closer look at the life of Naturalist Charles Darwin, his theories into evolution, adaptation, inheritance and natural selection. The children will begin the term with a Memorable Experience on Monday 4th January 2021, which will include observations of creatures both alive and dead (sourced from a pet shop), for a closer examination of their physical features and allow sketching and labelling of common body parts.
The children will still have P.E. twice a week, on a Monday morning with JB Sports and a second slot on the Monday afternoon. Next term's focus is Football so please ensure adequate outdoor sport clothing and footwear are worn. Any changes to the school P.E. timetable, to allow for different learning experiences, will be given well in advance.
The children will receive weekly spellings and be encouraged to record daily reading sessions in their reading record. Homework will continue this term with a project based approach, with the minimum one piece to be handed in no later than the first Friday back (8th January). Please encourage your child to take responsibility for their home learning as this is promoted strongly in year 6, in preparation for transition to secondary.
If you have any questions you wish to ask or any ideas or experiences which will enhance the children's learning please contact me via the school office or through the email link below.
