Welcome to Year 6
Welcome to our class page.
Here you will find all the information you need for our class projects, class news, celebrations of our learning and homework pieces. The page will be regularly updated through the term and each project will have its own link (at the bottom of the page) to help keep things organised.
The first project up to half term in October is called 'Pharaohs'. During this project we will look back over the ancient civilisation and its leaders- especially the boy king Tutankhamen, gods, mummification and the afterlife. We will begin our learning with an assortment of activities in the Memorable Experience in week beginning 7th September.
Those children that came in for the transition sessions will have received a project newsletter, project overview, a knowledge organiser and project homework sheets to help them be ready for learning upon our return. These documents can be found in the project subpage link at the bottom of the page.
The children will have P.E. twice a week, on a Monday and Tuesday. Please ensure they come into school wearing suitable warm sports clothing and footwear on their designated day as much of this will be delivered outside. Any changes to the school P.E. timetable, to allow for different learning experiences, will be given well in advance.
The children will receive weekly spellings and be encouraged to record daily reading sessions in their reading record. Homework in the first 2 terms will be project based with hand-in dates set out across the term (see sheet). Please encourage your child to take responsibility for their home learning as this is promoted strongly in year 6, in preparation for transition to secondary.
Both myself and Miss Andrews are so excited to welcome the children back into school. Many initial activities will be focused on their mental well-being and class discussions will help put them at ease and to feel safe being back at school.
If you have any questions you wish to ask or any ideas or experiences which will enhance the children's learning please contact me via the school office or through the email link below.
