Year 6 Class Page

A warm welcome to our class page.

Here you will find information covering the activities that year 6 will complete through this academic year.

Links at the bottom of the page will take you to each project and will have specific information regarding homework and the associated project administration, as well as regular updates of photos highlighting the activities that the children have participated in.

The second of our projects this year is entitled "A Child’s War'. The children will take a look at the historical events that led to World War 2. They will learn which nations were fighting and on which side. They will also look at key figures of the era and how their lives have impacted upon their own learning today. The project will begin with an Evacuee Day memorable experience on Tuesday 29th October. During the term they will visit 2 local World War 2 dedicated museums: taking part in role play activities as well as participate in discussions and themed activities. To end the project there will be a Wow Event where family members can share the children’s learning at an ‘VE Day’ celebration. Look out for your invite!

If you have any ideas, experiences or would like to contact me regarding your child's learning please use the email link below.

The children have already been given out their homework for this project, but there is a pdf link in the project page below for your information.

Year 6 is a very busy and important year for the children: the children will be encouraged to take more responsibility for their learning, homework and belongings in preparation for their SATs and transition to secondary school.

The children have received their CGP homework packs and are now hopefully settling into the routine of completing and handing homework in in a set time.  Please encourage your child to complete these tasks independently and to then discuss any areas with you that they do not understand. There will be a year 6 homework club that the children will be encouraged to attend to help clarify misconceptions and embed skills and knowledge. If the CGP has not been completed at home by hand-in day (Tuesday) attendance at the lunchtime club will be compulsory, so that the children's knowledge can be assessed and any additional learning support given.

P.E. will continue to be coached by JB Sports with the children also having swimming lessons on a Tuesday each week. Swimming will continue up until the week before the term ends for Christmas. Please ensure a school regulation P.E. kit is in school with suitable footwear from a Monday to Friday incase of timetable changes.
