Would you like to live beside the seaside?
Oh, I do like to be beside the seaside. Do you? That’s good, because you’re about to become an expert beachcomber. We have 2 amazing projects for our final term 'Beachcombers' and 'Land Ahoy!', during these projects we will gain lots of knowledge. We will learn valuable knowledge on living and non-living things, habitats, food chains and the basic needs of animals. This will lead nicely into the importance of our role in caring for the environment around us and develop the necessary skills to help protect our community and the local wildlife.
We will be creating interesting narratives about the seaside as well as writing recounts about our memorable experiences during the project. As part of our Science skills, we will develop the knowledge of how objects sink and float depending on their properties, we will then use this knowledge to create floating ships.
And finally we will be learning about seabirds, testing how water proof feathers are and making our very own seabird finger puppets . So let’s get this ship to port and start beachcombing!
10/06/2021 - Memorable Experience - Beach Trip
Today, Year 1 were very lucky and had a trip to the seaside! The children used all their knowledge from our last project to complete some special activities, these included: a walk along the pier to spot all the physical and human features of Skegness, then they used their Science knowledge to sort objects they found on the beach into group things that are living, dead or have never been alive and finally they had the chance to look around the RNLI station and see some lifeboats.
After lunch the children had some time to play in the sand, paddling in some water where they spotted some starfish and crabs and even got to enjoy an ice lolly!
