Year 3 were very lucky this afternoon to be able to use the brand new IPads in school to create their own presentations about what they have learnt this project. They used Google slides and had to think about the colour of their background as well as their font size and colour.

This week, the children are looking at biographies in English and are going to create their own biography about a musical artist of their choice. They started the week by looking at existing biographies and identifying the language and structural features in them.

04/02/2019 - Innovate Week


Year 3 have an exciting few weeks ahead of them! With their end of project concert just around the corner, they created some T-shirts today to wear at the concerts. They used fabric pens and crayons to create their finished product and are looking forward to wearing them for the performances!

30/01/2019 - Design and Technology


Year 3 had a tremendous afternoon, designing and creating their own musical instruments. They worked in pairs to create an instrument of their choice using junk modelling as well as art and craft resources. They were also lucky to receive some help from one of the year 6 classes, which helped bring their ideas to life!

This week, Year 3 are creating posters for our upcoming concert. They had to design them today and think about what persuasive devices they could use to make their poster stand out and encourage people to attend!

Today, Year 3 had the opportunity to showcase the songs that they had created this week. They used the Taylor Swift track 'Shake it off' as a backing track and then generated their own lyrics to it about a typical school day.

This week, Year 3 are looking at song lyrics and they started by listening to some well known songs and identified different features. They were looking for examples of rhyming, alliteration and repetition. Here they are singing a song in French which uses repetition.

16/01/2019 - Skype Call with Indian Trail Elementary School


Year 3 were very fortunate today to have a Skype call with a Grade 3 class from America. They introduced themselves to the students from Indian Trail Elementary School; spent some time asking questions to find out about the culture of schools in America as well as answering questions from the students in America.

16/01/2019 - Archery with JB Sports


Year 3 had their second archery lesson today and started using targets with their bows and arrows. They looked carefully at how to fire the arrow safely and effectively.

This week, Year 3 have been looking at poetry and they went on a walk around school yesterday listening to all the different sounds they could hear. They then created some verses for poems, following a similar style to that of 'The Sound Collector' Poem by Roger Mcgough.

09/01/2019 - Science


This afternoon, Year 3 looked at volume and they used iPads to record the volume of different sounds and measured these in decibels. They recorded this in a results table and drew conclusions from what they had found.

09/01/2019 - Maths


Year 3 have moved onto multiplication in maths and started today by looking at equal groupings. They used a variety of practical objects to show arrays and equal groups.

07/01/2019 - Science and Music


This afternoon, Year 3 looked at how sound is created and how it travels to our ears. They used instruments and other materials to see how sound was created through vibrations in the air.

07/01/2019 - Launch Event


This morning, Year 3 and Year 4 joined together to launch their playlist project. They were in groups and had the opportunity to listen to five different genres of music including: a choir, an orchestra as well as a rock band. They then had to think about how the music made them feel and when they would like to most listen to it.
