Year 6 investigated the effect of weight on a pendulum. First they watched a video of multiple pendulums oscillating and discussed how and why they thought that each pendulum swung at different speeds. They then discussed where they would see pendulums in action in the wider world and theme parks. This led to a discussion about park swings and whether a heavier person would swing for a longer or shorter length of time than someone lighter, and if so what forces were acting upon it. This then led to children creating their own pendulums within the classroom and testing their predictions.
