This will be their first piece of assessed writing in Year 3 and they had the chance to publish them today using handwriting pens to see if they can earn themselves a pen licence!

09/10/2019 - Design and Technology

Year 3 have had two busy afternoons of design and technology. Yesterday, they spent some of the afternoon designing a robot, which included annotations and then this afternoon, they used junk modelling and different tools to create their final robot!

03/10/2019 - RE

For the last two weeks, Year 3 have been looking at how Hindus created Ganesh 'Murtis' in their houses so that it is easier when praying to God. They used clay and paint to create their very own Murtis.

02/10/2019 - Science

Over the last two afternoons, Year 3 have been looking closely at how tarnished pennies can be cleaned when placed in different solutions. They placed one penny into vinegar, water, cola, lemon juice and water and then left them over night to see what difference the solutions had made to the penny.

01/10/2019 - Science

This afternoon, Year 3 continued their journey through the Mighty Metals project and they investigated how different surfaces can affect the distance a car travelled down a ramp. They had to think carefully about all of the forces that were in action as the car moved!

27/09/2019 - English

This week, Year 3 created their own board games and today they spent time editing their instructions in their books before publishing them onto pieces of paper ready for display!

25/09/2019 - WeDo Lego

Year 3 had a very exciting morning working with Mr Carlton and building a Lego model which could pull something. They had to follow instructions to build the model and then used the IPads to program what they had made so that it would move when given different commands.

24/09/2019 - Design and Technology

This afternoon, Year 3 designed and created a board game, which they are going to use magnetic counters on and also create a set of instructions for by the end of the week.

23/09/2019 - English

Year 3 are looking at instruction writing this week, so had to write a simple set of instructions for a playground game of their choice. They soon realised how important it was to be clear and concise when giving instructions as well as using imperative verbs to ensure that they give good commands.

20/09/2019 - English

This week, Year 3 have been working on an explanation for a Robot that they designed. They had to explain what its main purpose was and how some of its features worked. Today, they worked in pairs to assess each other's work in order to make any improvements before publishing them.

18/09/2019 - Design and Technology

What a fantastic afternoon in Year 3! The children created their own Formula 1 inspired cars and considered how the shape and design of it could effect its performance.

17/09/2019 - Science

This afternoon, Year 3 looked at something called 'inertia'. They found out that this was something founded by Sir Isaac Newton and he stated that, 'an object will remain at rest or move at a constant speed until it is acted on by an unbalanced force.' They then created different size spinners to see if that made a difference to the duration of its spin. They discovered that there were too many unbalanced forces acting on their spinners for them to have a large moment of inertia.

13/09/2019 - Roald Dahl Day

What a fantastic effort from Year 3 today for this special day! Amazing outfits and great to see them so enthusiastic with all the Roald Dahl themed activities!

11/09/2019 - Science

This afternoon, Year 3 looked at how some forces can be classified into contact and non-contact groups. They then had to group different playground apparatus into the two groups and they found that sometimes multiple forces were needed for one piece of equipment.

10/09/2019 - ICT

This afternoon, Year 3 worked in groups and used the laptops to create some tables of data based on some findings of the speed an object travelled down a slide wrapped in different materials.

09/09/2019 - Memorable Experience

Year 3 had an amazing time at the park with Year 4 to help with their learning for the Mighty Metals project that they are currently studying! They had the opportunity to: use magnets and see which apparatus materials were magnetic; use compasses to follow directions; play games with a parachute and then have discussions about how forces were in action in all of these activities!

05/09/2019 - R.E

Year 3 started looking at Hinduism in RE this afternoon and they found out about Ganesh. They then created some Ganesh masks to go on display around the classroom and will learn more about the faith over this term.

05/09/2019 - English

Year 3 used resources around the classroom this morning to help them when describing objects on the board. They did not quite believe that Mr Roberts owned a Lamborghini...

04/09/2019 - Science

This afternoon, Year 3 looked at levers and they used force meters to see how changing the position of the fulcrum effects the effort required to lift objects.

04/09/2019 - Maths

Year 3 started by looking at place value in maths this morning and used objects to represent numbers as well as using different resources to practice identifying the place value of digits in numbers.
