In the final week of the Healthy Lifestyles Program with JB Sports, Year 3 worked in groups to create a new exercise and diet plan for a fictional person. They had to think about including foods from the food groups and include some time for exercise in the weekly plan.

Year 3 finished their persuasive letters today to local MP Victoria Atkins about the recent proposal to change free school meals for all infant children. They all carefully considered the layout of the letter and included fantastic sentence starters to introduce arguments and evidence.

15/05/2018 - Healthy Lifestyles with JB Sports


This week, Year 3 continued looking at promoting a healthy and active lifestyle so that they could be as healthy as possible. They looked at: how many hours sleep they had; how often they brushed their teeth; how much water they drink in a day and when they eat their meals. They then compared these to the recommended amounts to be consider a child with a balanced and healthy lifestyle.


14/05/2018 - Project


This afternoon Year 3 had the challenge of explaining the digestive system; through the use of drama. They had to work in groups to explain the journey through the digestive tract and ensure that they included lots of key vocabulary as well as engaging the audience with their acting skills.

This week, Year 3 have been looking at how to keep a healthy bowel! In today's lesson they had to create an informative poster from all the notes they had taken this week and turn into an eye-grabbing poster, which could be useful to people. Have a look at their creations below...

10/05/2018 - Lego with Mr Carlton


Year 3 were very lucky today to have the whole afternoon working with Mr Carlton; building structures from Lego and then using the Ipads to program the buggies to do different things. It was very impressive to see some buggies moving but then using a sensor to stop moving when there was an obstacle in their path.

08/05/2018 - Project


What a fantastic morning Year 3 had today! They created 'poo'! They made their way through the digestive tract; from mouth to rectum, whilst also describing every step of the journey with amazing vocabulary and technical language. 08/05/2018 - Healthy Lifestyles with JB Sports


This week, Year 3 learnt all about calories in food. They looked at the recommended amount children aged 7 and 8 should consume in a day. Then they completed different exercises to see how long they would have to exercise at high intensity to burn off some food items. This really helped them to understand the importance of a healthy balanced diet.

Year 3 have worked tremendously hard this week, creating their own narrative story about a journey through the digestive system as if they were a piece of food! They had to use the first person to describe their journey and include some high level sentence structures.

As well as looking at the digestive system in humans, Year 3 have also been considering the other important organs in the bodies of animals. Today they were very lucky to be able to hold and look at the heart of a sheep, a set of lungs, trachea and oesophagus from a pig.

Year 3 have worked tremendously hard this week on learning all about the digestive system in the human body and have created some super t-shirts, which illustrates the digestive tract in the body and labelled it as well.

01/04/2018 - Healthy Lifestyles with JB Sports


This week in Year 3, the children looked at food labelling and identified what the different colours meant on different foods. Then they played a challenging game to get rid of as much of the bad fats, sugars and salts as possible to make their body as healthy as possible.

Year 3 have continued their journey through the digestive system this afternoon and have really impressed the adults in the class with their ability to pick up knowledge and technical language to explain how the different parts work. They had to create a poster in groups for a different part of the digestive system, which was then put on display to help them with their work for the rest of the week.

Year 3 created and published some poems this week, they wrote in free verse but had to include an idiom, which linked to teeth. They produced some fantastic pieces of work, with some exceptional handwriting and presentation being seen in the work too! They will look great on display in the classroom...

25/04/2018 - Memorable Experience


Today in Year 3 and 4, the children were lucky enough to have a visitor in from SMILES, which is part of the Community Dental Service. They took part in various activities which looked at: how to brush their teeth properly; the correct toothpaste to use and also which drinks contained more sugars than others. They were very shocked by how much sugar was found in some drinks that are often drunk by young children.

24/04/2018 - Healthy Lifestyles with JB Sports


This week with JB sports, Year 3 looked at a healthy balanced diet again and this time really considered what group different foods would fall into. They also thought about proportion and how some of the food groups took up more space than others and they began to understand what this means in relation to a healthy balanced meal and diet.

The focus in English this week is 'Idioms' and in today's lesson, Year 3 looked at some phrases, which were all classed as idioms. They started by discussing what idioms were and then matched some idioms about teeth to their meanings.

23/03/2018 - Science


This afternoon in Year 3, the children looked at saliva and the role it plays in the digestive system. The children had to set up an experiment, where they put samples of food on a paper plate; one sample being coated in water and the other in saliva. They then had to look at the changes that happened with the food samples and think about why the saliva broke the food down more than just the water.

Yesterday, Year 3 published their fact files all about teeth. They used sub-headings to separate their text as well as including a glossary to give definitions for the more difficult technical vocabulary.

19/04/2018 - R.E - Judaism


This term, Year 3 are looking at Judaism and started this religion by making full use of the lovely weather by playing their own versions of 'Tig'. They had to write their own rules for their version of the game and then they had to think about rules in 'real life'. They discussed what laws are and why it is important for the public to follow them in order to avoid conflict.



18/04/2018 - Art and Design


To continue their work through the current project of 'Burps, Bottoms and Bile!' the children in Year 3 looked at editing pictures of their smile. They took the pictures with their partner; using an IPad and then printed the image off for editing. They could use glitter, felt tips, colouring pencils and highlighters to create their design before leaving comments on each other's work to explain what they liked.

This week in Maths, the children are looking at adding lengths and these children were making use of a 100 square and other practical resources to help them with their working.

It was great to see Year 3 adding to their working wall today during English as they looked a fact files. They had to find features in the fact files, which included: a title; sub-headings; pictures/diagrams and interesting factual information.

17/04/2018 - Healthy Lifestyles workshop with JB Sports


This term, the children are beginning to look more closely at food and what it means to have a healthy balanced diet. They created lists of good and bad food and then had to play games to challenge each other on which foods fell into the healthy and unhealthy categories.

16/04/2018 - Science


Well the exciting first day back continued this afternoon with the children in Year 3 looking at the importance of brushing their teeth properly. They used plaque disclosing tablets straight after lunch, then cleaned their teeth before using another tablet to see how much cleaner their teeth were after brushing them. It was a very interesting afternoon and the children loved going home with pink coloured teeth!!

16/04/2018 - P.E with JB Sports


Year 3 had a busy start to the Summer Term with an exciting P.E lesson with Coach Josh from JB Sports. They have started their sports day preparation early; with today's focus being on sprinting!
