Sir Teachalot visits Year 1 and Year 2
Wow, what a day! As an entry point activity for our new Towers,Tunnels and Turrets project we had a visit from Sir Teachalot, who really did teach us a lot about castles and knights. We covered several aspects of history and science, while having more fun than you could point a lance at! The children were shown different costumes and weapons, and tested their strength picking up a mail shirt ( see the photo of Max!) Next came the jousting, which was a highlight of the day. Everyone had the chance to ride the `horse' and collect hoops on a lance.
During the afternoon, we gradually built a seriously impressive castle, while learning the names and purposes of its different parts. The day ended in grand style as we used a trebuchet to launch beanbags to demolish our castle. We would love to give another massive thank you to Sir Teachalot for a hugely fun and informative day.
We were so proud of Year 2 for their part in the KS1 `Really Wild Show.` Everyone used their loudest and clearest speaking voice.
The children showed `Wild Thing` masks that they had made and re-told part of the story of Max and The Wild Things. We used drama to demonstrate food chains and the transfer of energy along them.
Some children rean their Wild Thing inspired poetry. The children had also written their own lyrics for a Rumpus Round, which was sung with great gusto!
Well done Year 2, and thank you to all the grown ups who came to be our audience.
Welcome to Year 2!
The teachers in Year 2 are Mrs Jeffery and Mrs Parr. Mrs Jeffery teaches on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays and Mrs Parr teaches on Thursdays and Fridays. We love teaching through topics and this year our topics include Moon Zoom, Memory Box, Towers, Turrets and Tunnels, Street Detectives, Bounce and Paws, Claws and Whiskers.
Our PE session with JB sports is on Tuesday mornings but PE kit needs to be in school all week so that if the time changes or we include extra sessions then all children are prepared.
Reading books need to come to school every day as we aim to listen to the children read as often as possible. Please remember to write a short note in your child's reading record when you listen to them read at home so that we know how they are doing with their home reading and when their book needs changing.
Please keep checking back to our page to see updates on all the exciting things Year 2 have been up to!
