Week 4

This week Year 2 were shown a dartboard. They were asked to work out what was the highest score they could achieve with 3 darts, using just the single scores around the outside edge. The class quickly identified that they needed to find the highest single value, which was 20, and work from there.

Finlay Davison said," I know it is 60 because 3 x 2 = 6, so 20 + 20 + 20 = 60. And because 2 + 2 + 2= 6"

Oscar Chalkley used the 100 bead string and explained," I got 3 lots of 20 and then counted them in 10s."

Katie Hopper said, " If 20 + 20 is 40, add 10 more and 10 more and it is 60."

Hugh and Oliver Curtis also used the 100 bead string. "We knew each colour equalled 10, so we got 6 of each colour and it all equalled 60."

Other children used written methods, base 10 apparatus or Numicon.
