This week the children were given a two level problem to solve. They could choose whether to start with the easier question and then try the harder one, or go straight to the harder one.
They also had the choice of which maths apparatus and methods to use. Hugh and Oliver worked together using the 100 bead string, whileEmma and Lucy preferred to draw representations of base 10 apparatus .Ben,Ryan, K.J. and Olivia used Numicon to solve the problem. Harvey and Chrystal found the abacus the most useful. The children were all given time to share their methods and maths thinking. We love a maths challenge in Year 2!
