During our Understand of the World sessions we have been looking at Easter. We have been researching what different people believe Easter is all about and made hot cross scones. We shared a book about Easter and thought about other people's religions and beliefs.
Our cooking skills in Reception are really coming on and we all enjoyed our scones at snack time!
As part of our topic work we have been doing some Science activities based around growing. Following a spring walk we thought about what things plants and flowers need to be able to grow. We decided that they needed: water, light and heat. To test if this was the case we decided to do an experiment. We learnt lots of new vocabulary and even though it was a little tricky to say we have enjoyed making predictions.
We got four tulip plants from the garden centre and labelled them, we decided that one of the plants should have everything, one should have no water, one no light and one no heat. We have seen some big changes in our plants already check out the pictures below.
We made predictions about what we thought would happen to our plants after another week of our experiment. We were shocked to see that the plant that was in the cupboard had grown longer than the plants on the window but it was not standing up the shoots were laying on the ground.
At the end of the experiment we had a difficult decision to make to see which plant had been the best. We decided that the winner was the plant that had been inside on the window sill and that we gave water to. A close second was the plant we put outside. We really enjoyed our experiemnt and learnt lots about what plants need to be able to grow.
