The fierce Viking warrior Uhtred Uhtredson visited Years 3 and 4 today. We spent the whole day looking at the Saxons and Vikings, where they came from; their dress; the games they played; their weapons and how they fought. We learned how to form a shield wall and attack the enemy and how to use an axe or a sword. No heads were lost in this activity!!! But the cabbages came in for a bit of a battering. The children thoroughly enjoyed their day and they ALL looked great in their Viking costumes.
During one of our topic lessons, we researched traditional Saxon Weapons, what they looked like, what they were made from and who they were used by. From the research we were able to design and label our fierce Saxon weapons.
