Welcome to Reception Class!
We are all getting settled in now. We are learning about each other and becoming part of the Spilsby Primary Academy family.
We have lots of really exciting topics this year and are now getting ready for our last topic UNDER THE SEA. We have discussed this as a class and the children would like to learn about sea creatures and also mermaids! This topic will take us right through till the summer.
WHO WORKS WITH YOUR CHILD?
We are lucky to have Mrs Martin and Mrs Villiers to support Reception class all day along with myself. So we have lots of grown-ups to help and look after us whilst we are having fun learning.
In Reception, we will be having PE on Wednesdays and Fridays so please make sure you have your PE kits in school, including trainers, all week. Please remember to name all clothing and footwear which you bring in.
SHOW AND TELL
Show and Tell will start in a few weeks and will be on Thursday mornings. This will give your child the opportunity to bring in something special from home, linked to our topic, and talk about it in front of their friends at school, encouraging their communication skills and giving us a chance to get to know them more.
Topic homework will be given at the start of every main topic, the first of which you have already had. This will be a creative project which will hopefully encourage you and your child to work together to create an individual piece of work, which they will be able to talk about in class.
Homework for phonics will start after October half term once all our initial assessments have been done. In the meantime, could you please continue to share books with your child and practise writing their name.
Maths homework will take the form of playing games at home with your child to reinforce number recognition, 1:1 counting and adding on. You could also practise measures whilst cooking/ baking and talk about shapes in the environment.
There is a booklet link at the bottom of this page to help with this.
Your child will also be receiving their reading book in a few weeks. We encourage you to read with your child a little every day and bring their book and reading record to school every day in their book bags.
If you need to contact me for any reason, please use the email form below or see me in the mornings or afternoon at the gate.
