Reception

Welcome to Reception Class!

I hope you have had a fun-filled summer and are now ready for some more fun in Reception class!

We have lots of really exciting topics this year and start off with “WHY DO YOU LOVE ME SO MUCH?”

This will entail learning about how special and unique we are whilst still being part of a school family. We will also learn about who and what is special to us and how to keep ourselves safe and healthy. There will also be a mini-topic on Winter Wonderland on the run up to Christmas. These topics will take us right through till Christmas.

Along with myself we are lucky to have Mrs Villiers and Miss Smith to support Reception class all day along. On a Thursday and Friday, Mrs Salmon joins us in Reception too.

This year we are also lucky to have a trainee teacher, Miss Carter, joining us too.

So we have lots of grown-ups to help and look after us whilst we are having fun learning.

In Reception, we will be having PE on Wednesdays and Fridays, so please make sure your child has their PE kits in school, including trainers. It is best to send your child in with their PE kit on Monday morning and leave it here for the week. Then we will send it home with your child on Friday.

If you would like to send in a spare pair of pants and socks, we can keep these at school this year just in case your child has an accident.

Please remember to NAME ALL CLOTHING AND FOOTWEAR which you send in with your child to avoid confusion.

Topic homework will be given at the start of every main topic, the first of which you have already had. This will be a creative project which will hopefully encourage you and your child to work together to create an individual piece of work, which they will be able to talk about in class.

Homework for phonics will start after October half term once all our initial assessments have been done. In the meantime, could you please continue to share books with your child and practise writing their name.

Maths homework will take the form of playing games at home with your child to reinforce number recognition, 1:1 counting and adding on. You could also practise measures whilst cooking/ baking and talk about shapes in the environment. There is a booklet link at the bottom of the Reception Class Page on our website (website address is below).

Your child will also be receiving their reading book in a few weeks, towards the end of September. We encourage you to read with your child a little every day. Their books will only be changed on Mondays and Fridays but please bring their book and reading record to school every day in their book bags.

Don’t forget to look us up on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to see what brilliant things we are learning about and experiencing in school.

If you need to contact me for any reason, please feel free to talk to me in the mornings or afternoon at the gate or by the contact form on the bottom of this page.

I look forward to a very enjoyable year working with you and your child.

Many Thanks
