The School Choir Perform at Sheffield Arena

Latest News from Mrs Jeffery and the School Choir.

On Tuesday 19 January our choir of 33 children went to Sheffield Arena for our grand performance in the Young Voices choir.  We had been working really hard since September learning all of the songs and were so excited that the day had finally come!  We had a great time practising with the other 5000 children, live band and solo/group performers in the afternoon.  It was hard work, but lots of fun.  Barney from Blue Peter was filming for an upcoming episode of the programme and conducted ‘Power in Me’.  The other special guests were:

  • Laura Wright, who is an incredible soprano;
  • The Beatbox Collective, who taught us some beatboxing skills ready for the concert;
  • Tom Billington who, with his amazingly energetic performance style, inspired us all;
  • Urban Strides, and incredibly talented Street Dance group.

In the evening the atmosphere in the Arena became even more magical with fabulous lighting, sound and extra performances by the special guests.  We sang our hearts out and danced the night away in songs like The Lightning Tree, Power in Me, an amazing Pop Medley with modern classics by artists including Jess Glynn and Ed Sheeran, Life on Mars as a tribute to David Bowie, Get Loud, The Gospel Train which included Gospel favourites such as Wade in the Water, Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho, When the Saints Go Marching In and Swing Low, Power in Me and River Deep Mountain High.

We all agree that it was one of the best things we have ever been involved in.  Thank you to all the children for their incredible hard work and dedication and to all the parents who supported us either through practising with their children at home or coming to the performance in person.
