Children develop their phonic skills and confidence in reading and writing throughout KS1.
In Key Stage 1 children learn the Set 3 sounds. These are alternative ways of spelling the sounds they have learned. For example, in Reception, children learn to spell and read the ir sound as in bird. In Key Stage 1, children learn that the ir sound can also be spelt ur (turn), and er (letter)
Reading the range of Read Write Inc books helps to develop the children’s confidence with these new sounds.
