The children began their exploration of nonsense poetry by listening to the Jabberwocky and On the Ning Nang Nong. They discussed what they thought the poems were about and how the expression used in the reading helped create different feelings inside them.
They then investigated different fruits and vegetables, looking at their size, shape, texture, colour and smell. They compiled their own adjectives word bank and began the hard task of changing their real adjectives to nonsense adjectives.
Following the AB, AB rhyming pattern of the Jabberwocky poem they worked in small groups to create their own Fruity nonsense poem.
